Greek Architecture
The word architecture comes from a Greek word that means “master builder.” There are three different columns that originate from Ancient Greece. These columns are Doric (simplest), Ionic (famous for its scrolls), and Corinthian (most elaborate). Friezes were decorated bands that are found on the top of the roof on buildings. They were used for decoration and made buildings more appealing to the eye. Many of the Greek styles are still used today. You can find these styles at government buildings, schools, churches, libraries, and museums. You can also see Greek styles at homes and stores. Many houses have covered porches. We got the idea of porches from the Greeks stoa. Stoa is a covered line of columns that form a porch.
