Greek Government
Our form of government, democracy, was started in Greece, specifically Athens. The idea of having people serve on juries also started in Greece. There are many differences in Greek democracy and modern democracy. In Athens, citizens debated and voted on on every issue, now we elect representatives to speak and make laws. In Athens only native-born men could be citizens. Nowadays, women are citizens and people outside the U.S can become citizens. Despite the differences the basic principles of democracy come from the Greeks. The people of Athens were proud that their government allowed them to control their own fate. This idea is the basis of democracy. Our government today is democracy, so if it wasn't for the Greeks we never could've been a democracy. Also, their idea of juries is still used today.
